OUR FAITH MAKES A LASTING IMPACT, EVEN IF WE DON’T SEE IT.
SCRIPTURE | 1 Kings 2:1-4; 3:3-15
CENTRAL TRUTH
Scripture is clear that wisdom only comes from the Lord (Prov. 9:10). The longer we walk with Jesus, the wiser we should become because walking with Christ transforms us into His image.
KEY QUESTION
HOW DOES SOMEONE BECOME WISE?
KEEP IN MIND
Students often believe a common lie, and we need to help them dismantle it. The world often teaches that they only learn from messing up. Sure, we all learn valuable lessons from our mistakes because God can use everything to draw us closer to Him. But this idea that it’s the only way to learn is usually justification for living recklessly. It’s an excuse for students to “live it up” while they’re young because that’s just what young people are supposed to do. They’ve been told that part of being young is partying, finding themselves, and experimenting. This is a lie of the enemy; this isn’t how they gain wisdom. God has promised to give believers wisdom when they ask for it in faith, and no age limit exists on this promise (James 1:5). Students don’t have to make all the same decisions and mistakes as everyone else. They can walk in wisdom and live a godly life now—not just when they’re older. God has given them everything they need—His Word, the Holy Spirit, prayer, godly mentors—for a life of wisdom and godliness (2 Pet. 1:3).
APPLICATION
IN WHAT AREA OF YOUR LIFE DO YOU NEED WISDOM? WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO TO GAIN IT?
THE WIN
FOR THE STUDENT: Students should understand that gaining wisdom won’t happen if they’re passive; it requires active pursuit through seeking the Lord. Only in Him will they find wisdom for every single situation they face in life.
FOR THE LEADER: We never stop needing godly wisdom. In fact, as leaders, we often need it even more. The good news of the gospel is that God sent Jesus to save us and the Holy Spirit to live within us, giving us power and wisdom.
