Gospel Links for Gospel Culture (5/10)

May 10, 2019 | Aaron Armstrong

We Dare Not Lose the Psalms

Trevin Wax:
There’s a reason why leaders like Billy Graham and Tim Keller adopted the habit of reading five psalms a day, in order to make their way through the psalter 12 times a year. “There are other prayers in the Bible,” Keller writes, “but no other place where you have an entire course of theology in prayer form, and no other place where you have every possible heart condition represented, along with the way to process that situation before God.”

Don’t Pretend You Don’t Wrestle With Doubt

Matt Chandler:

What the Bible Says About Itself—Book by Book

Jared Wilson:
What God says about his Word is a deep, complex, and staggering thing. And each book of the written Word testifies to the wonder of his revelation. I decided to take a look, book by book, selecting a representative passage from each to highlight many of the things God’s word says about God’s words.

God Does Wonders With Average People

Thor Madsen:
Measured against someone like Thomas Aquinas, the smartest guy in any room nowadays is only above average. And here’s another lesson taught through education: it is okay to be dim in the sunlight. We need our heroes, but any of us can please God and be used significantly by him even with average abilities. In fact, being wicked-smart could be a problem for some of us. It could go to our heads and enable us to do even more damage to ourselves and others, with the advantage of special creativity.

How Does Jesus Respond to Your Doubt?

Michael Kelley:
It’s a relevant question because we, too, have had similar questions. We, too, have heard the stories. We, too, have had our hopes dashed by circumstances. Surely there has been a moment in all our lives when we were hoping – maybe even daring to believe – that Jesus is who He said He is. That He could do what He said He could do. And that if He was who He said He was and He could do what He said He could do, then we could put our faith in Him and believe that He was truly in control. That He truly loved us without condition. That through Him, we could have true and abundant life, even if following Him meant bearing our cross and walking the pathway of loss.
