Gospel Links for Gospel Culture (10/4)

October 4, 2019 | Aaron Armstrong

How we helped our children transition to “big” church

Nicole Lino:

Our motto is “train and model.” Training and modeling requires sacrifice (Rom. 12:1). In order to train and model worship of the living God to my children, I must be willing to put their spiritual well-being before my own. For a season, I will not hear every word of the sermon. I will not have any idea that we prayed for a particular people group in worship. I will miss the report of life change on a mission trip. I will not have all of my needs met in worship.

Disagreement Doesn’t Equal Heresy

Jared C. Wilson:

I understand why people may have questions about the wisdom of someone’s statements or wonder about the wisdom of sharing a platform with those who are in error. Cooperation at such visible levels can give the impression of an endorsement. You and I may find this exceedingly unwise. We may find it incredibly unhelpful. You and I might never do that ourselves. But can we rightfully deduce from associations, however unwise, an affirmation of heresy?

Joy in the Sorrow of Miscarriage and Childlessness

Lore Ferguson Wilbert:

It’s an unpopular sentiment, even in the church. We rightly call children blessings because God calls them blessings, but could the absence of them also perhaps be a blessing? Could God still be good and do good by withholding one blessing (children) and in its place giving another one, stranger and unsought (childlessness)?

Could God be enough for me, for us, for our marriage, for our home, for my body, if we never saw what was never promised to us in his Word?

3 Questions to Ask Yourself After a Worship Service

Michael Kelley:

I’ve used all these words at points during the last 40 or so years when I’ve been regularly attending Sunday morning worship services. And none of those answers are wrong necessarily. The great majority of those worship services have indeed been good. Or if not good, ten at least fine. More occasionally powerful. Almost always uplifting though. So those answers are, in a word, fine, but maybe not very helpful in terms of processing what just happened, and what just happened is worth processing.

We Must Walk Faithfully in Our Fear

Scarlet Hiltibidal:

I would definitely, completely, and always rather be sitting in the audience than standing on the stage. Even better, I’d rather be live streaming that talk from my bed with the nachos, and we’ve covered all that.

So, it’s been strange saying “not no” to serving the Lord in this way that is very uncomfortable to me.
