When I was a new believer, one of the biggest mistakes I made was trying to jump right into reading the Prophets. Not that reading them was a mistake, of course. My problem was I had no idea what to do with them. What did these books that seem so filled with judgment and doom, strange imagery, and painful truths written to ancient people have to do with me?
Quite a bit, as it turns out.
Despite the very specific nature of their message, the Prophets are good news for us today. In these ancient letters, we find the promise of the gospel—that even as God prepares to judge the sins of His people and the world, He will rescue those who trust in Him.

The Minor Prophets remind us of the justice of God—His promise to punish the sin that infects and distorts His good creation. But they also remind us of something greater: that His plan of redemption would not be hindered. No matter how far humanity fell, no matter how far His people went astray, God was preparing the way for Christ, the One who would take away the sins of the world (John 1:29).
