5 Reasons Why I Chose “The Gospel Project for Kids” by Molly Smith

June 27, 2013 | Matt Capps

We are always encouraged when we find church leaders giving The Gospel Project unsolicited endorsements! Molly Smith serves as the Director of Children’s Ministries at First Baptist Church, Henderson Tennessee. Here is a blog post she wrote titled 5 Reasons Why I Chose “The Gospel Project for Kids”. The Children’s Ministry at FBCH has been using Lifeway’s Sunday School Curriculum, The Gospel Project for Kids, since September 2012. After over 9 months of seeing it in action, I wouldn’t choose anything else, and here is why: It’s Gospel Centered In every single lesson, it shows a connection to the Redemption Story. The kids thought it was beyond cool to learn that Noah was in the same family line as Jesus. And when they learned the symbolic use of the Passover lamb when the Hebrews were leaving Egyptian captivity to Jesus being our true Passover Lamb that frees us from bondage, light bulbs were bursting! It’s Kid Friendly From the airplane countdown at the beginning of large group time to the activities and crafts for small group time, each Sunday is truly captivating. The Bible stories are told in such a way that shows that the Bible is fascinating, amazing, and cool! While some curriculum sacrifices Biblical concepts on the alter of entertainment, The Gospel Project for Kids marries the two in an absolutely perfect way. It Encourages Retention A timeline map is posted in the front of the classroom. This aids in showing the kids what we learned in previous weeks and how it connects to the lesson of the day. There are always review questions and connections made throughout the lesson by the teacher. I love this factor of The Gospel Project for Kids because it shows them how the Bible works together in one big story, and that it is not made up of individual stories. It’s Technology Savvy The Bible stories are available to watch instead of be recited by the teachers. They are typically 4-7 minutes and are presented with excellence and creativity. Our kids never have known a world without the Disney Channel or without iPhones. We need to meet them in their environment and teach them from there. Also, the entire curriculum is available to download instead of purchase hard copies. This not only saves money, but makes using it even easier! It Teaches the Teachers There is never a Sunday where the lesson has not taught me something new or brought a Biblical truth back to life to me. My volunteer teachers feel the same way. Being a Sunday School teacher means that you are giving up being in a Sunday School class of your own. Being able to learn alongside the kids is such a wonderful side effect of using The Gospel Project for Kids.
