What’s New with The Gospel Project for Kids?

June 25, 2024 | Sarah McLean

The Gospel Project for Kids is excited to announce the launch of a new 3-year cycle beginning in Fall 2024. Starting a new cycle of The Gospel Project for Kids offers our team an opportunity to reinforce the strong biblical concepts we already incorporate into our curriculum as well as implement improvements based on feedback we receive from churches using our products. As we continue to shepherd kids’ hearts toward Christ-centered Bible stories and cultivate a comprehensive understanding of the big story of Scripture, below are some changes you can expect to see in the 2024–2027 cycle.

Updated Study Plan

A distinguishing feature of The Gospel Project is to showcase God’s redemptive plan throughout the entirety of Scripture. As such, the new cycle will include an updated 3-year chronological study plan, complete with new stories that were not previously covered in the past cycle. We’re excited for kids to uncover more Christ-centered truths from the addition of these stories and for kids to expand their knowledge of Scripture. The updated study plan also allows for leaders, preschoolers, and kids to spend equal time between the Old Testament and the New Testament, providing for a balanced and wholistic view of the Bible. And since the center of the Bible is Jesus Himself, an especially exciting aspect of the study plan includes spending an entire year in the Gospels.

Story Points

As we continue to disciple kids in the truth of God’s Word, each session of the new cycle will include a story point to help kids and preschoolers comprehend a key emphasis from the Bible story. The story points will provide a simple, age-appropriate, memorable truth for preschoolers and kids to take away from teaching time. Leaders will have multiple opportunities to remind kids of the story point throughout the session.

Christmas and Easter Bonus Sessions

Christmas and Easter are natural times for kids to be reminded of the significance of Jesus’ incarnation, death, burial, and resurrection. With this in mind, we will be providing one bonus session for Christmas and two bonus sessions for Easter. Whether your church desires to pause from the chronological study plan or embed these specific events into the scope and sequence, by providing Christmas and Easter bonus sessions, churches may schedule those sessions according to what works best for their unique teaching approach.

Reimagined Preschool Bible Story Videos

We know how preschoolers best learn through visual and experiential teaching, so new reimagined preschool videos will be updated to give preschoolers a fun and engaging experience as they hear the Bible story. Preschool videos will continue to include Maegan and her beloved puppet Jesse. However, new visuals and dramatizations more aligned with the elementary videos will help captivate preschoolers as they see and hear the Bible stories.

QR Codes

Preschool and kids’ activity pages will now include the addition of QR codes which will equip churches with an easy, convenient method of encouraging families to use the At Home content to teach the gospel to their kids at home, in the car, or on a family trip. The At Home content includes opportunities for families to worship together through Scripture reading, Bible story videos, singing, fun activities, and more.

Big Truth Integration

As we emphasize the chronological study of the Bible, the new cycle will no longer include the stand-alone Big Truth sessions. Instead, these big truths will be found within the regular session content. By integrating these truths into each session, kids and leaders will seamlessly encounter theological concepts without breaking away from a chronological study of Scripture.

New Art

Bible stories come alive when kids see pictures that reflect what they’re learning. As new stories are introduced, new biblical art to accompany those stories will also be provided. The updated art will include more than 50 new pieces of Bible story art. In addition, a redesigned timeline will incorporate the new teaching pictures to catch the attention of leaders, preschoolers, and kids.

Single Missions Moment

As we continue to help kids understand God’s ongoing mission to rescue sinners around the world, the missions content will still be provided during the Bible learning time. The missions focused teaching time will present kids with an opportunity to watch a missions video, play a game, hear a story, or complete an activity. However, a second missions-related activity will now be exchanged for an additional activity that corresponds directly to the story point, key passage, or big picture question and answer.

Updated Books of the Bible Posters

One final change we’re excited to provide is updated Books of the Bible Posters, complete with more than 50 new pieces of Bible story art. As leaders display these posters in their preschool and kids’ ministry environments, the new design of the posters will provide a cohesive visual when paired with the new timelines and teaching posters.
