Central Truth
God is not distant in any way. He draws near to us as we draw near to Him in prayer. God cares for and watches closely over every single person who loves Him. And God was here in the flesh-and-blood through Jesus and is here now, in us, through His Holy Spirit. Nothing can contain God and nowhere can keep Him out. He is and will always be with us everywhere, in every way, at all times—even when we don’t feel His presence clearly.

Immanuel (God with us) is one of many titles ascribed to Jesus. What does that tell us about what Jesus wants? Explain.
Keep in Mind
We can easily slip into the mindset that things done in secret stay that way. But Scripture says, “For nothing is concealed that won’t be revealed, and nothing hidden that won’t be made known and brought to light” (Luke 8:17). Students might have a tough time being open about their struggles and failures, especially related to things like addiction, sexual sin, and mental health. In a world that’s always talking, they may struggle to feel seen or heard. It’s important for students to know that no matter what they’ve done, God loves them, and no matter where they are, God sees them. Help students understand that God being everywhere at all times isn’t something to fear; instead, for believers, it provides lasting comfort.
APPLICATION
If we know and believe God is always with us, how should our lives be different from the world?
THE WIN
FOR THE STUDENT: Knowing God is with you always changes everything. Through the Holy Spirit, you have access to all the wisdom, boldness, understanding, “love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control” (Gal. 5:22-23) you could ever need. God always hears you, always provides for you, and is always with you. Living for Jesus can feel lonely at times, so it’s important to remember that you are never, ever alone.
FOR THE LEADER: It’s okay to acknowledge your limits. Our unlimited God does more than fill in the gaps, He fills you with His presence even as He cares for the rest of the world too. You can’t and won’t ever be able to do everything, and that’s perfectly okay. God’s presence with you through the Holy Spirit empowers you to do what you need to do—live out His calling on your life.
