God made a way to be with His people through His Son, Jesus.
Scripture: Isaiah 55:8-11; Matthew 28:16-20
Central Truth
Believers are never truly alone. The fact that God is with us is an example of God’s immanence—His ability to be with us and relate to us. Basically, even though God is so much higher than we are and His ways are greater than ours, He’s still present in our lives. He’s still a personal God who wants a personal relationship with each of us.
Key Question
“Jesus came near” to the people (see v. 18). How does this and His response comfort you?
Keep in Mind
Loneliness is a real issue for many students, even those who seems to always be surrounded by friends. They often don’t feel known or seen. Many of them believe they simply blend in with everyone else. And because they feel unseen by others, they can often feel unseen by God too. They can struggle with feeling like God is distant. God is high above us, but He isn’t far off. He is so near—dwelling within us. No earthly relationship can compare to the intimate relationship God offers us. Not only does God see us and know us, but He loves us. He likes us! And while He is everywhere all at once, even while He is on the throne in heaven, He is also here with us. This is an incredible truth for our students to grasp—to know God chooses to be with them.
APPLICATION
In what area of your life do you need to be reminded that God is with you?
THE WIN
FOR THE STUDENT: Loneliness is rampant for our students. When they walk through something hard or experience rejection, they struggle with feeling alone. But followers of Jesus are never alone. God dwells inside of us, enabling us to face all things through His strength. He is with you when you are waiting, hoping, grieving, and rejoicing—in all things.
FOR THE LEADER: One of the greatest ways we can minister to students (and to others) is to let them know they aren’t alone. We can do this with more than our words by spending quality time with them, sending them notes of encouragement, or checking in on them routinely.
