While God has made human beings to be like Him in many ways, He is not like us. Certain characteristics and attributes of His nature do not apply to humanity, as much as we would like to deny it. One of the most significant has to do with God’s presence. So let’s see what the Bible teaches on this.

God is present in all time and all places simultaneously. This is what we mean by the term omnipresent. Because God exists apart from and outside of time and space, He is not limited by their constraints. So, while we are limited to one place and time, God is present with us wherever we are, and sees all that occurs; nothing escapes His attention.

And, yes, “everything” really does mean everything. 

While the idea of God being omnipresent may make a part of us feel uncomfortable, it is actually really good news.

First, God’s ever presence can and should serve as a deterrent for sin. After all, if God is with us, that means He sees what we’re doing. So why would we want to sin in His presence? 

Second and most importantly, His presence should also be a source of great hope and comfort for Christians. If God is with us, that means He sees what’s happening in our lives. He knows our sorrows and weaknesses. He knows what we’re going through. He is with us, and He is there to help us in our time of need. So we can turn to Him, knowing that God truly is “our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble.”
