Gospel Links for Gospel Culture (10/12)

October 12, 2018 | Aaron Armstrong

“Gospel Links for Gospel Culture” is a weekly round-up of content to encourage you in your faith and ministry.

To Truly Know God is to Love God

Jen Wilkin:

The One Who Upholds All Things

David McLemore:
What does it mean that Jesus upholds the universe? It means he’s got the whole world in his hands. He’s got the itty bitty baby in his hands. He’s got you and me brother in his hands. He’s got you and me sister in his hands. He’s got the whole world in his hands. All things included. The depths of the earth, the heights of the mountains, the valleys of the ocean, the brightness of the stars, the warmth of our sun and all others. Every planet, every comet, every galaxy swirl in his great, big, giant palms. Every tear of every child he bottles, keeping count of their tossings, one day to wipe every tear from their face with the hands that uphold the world and everything in it. He’s got the whole world in his hands, down to the tears our sorrows produce.

When God Calls You to Walk through Suffering’s Door

Glenna Marshall:
When the next step of sanctification puts us squarely in front of suffering’s door—whether it’s labeled “breast cancer” or “Lyme disease,” we can respond in one of two ways. We can either waste the opportunity to grow in godliness by becoming bitter, or we can cross the threshold confident that what we receive from God’s hand is for his glory and our good. If suffering is the door you must walk through, then take heart in the ways God will use it for good in your life.

4 Reasons You Should Consider Teaching or Volunteering in Kids Ministry

Eric Geiger:
Last weekend I was not scheduled to teach in our adult services at Mariners Church so I volunteered to teach Sunday morning in our kid’s ministry. I am so thankful for those who serve in kid’s ministry each week. They make a massive impact on children and their families, and I wanted to be a part of their great work. If the Lord did not have me preaching in “big church” most weekends, I would be serving in kids ministry or student ministry. Here are four reasons you should consider volunteering in the kid’s ministry at your church.

Teaching Big Truths to Young Children

Anna Sargeant:

Should We Do Away With Talk of Worldview?

Trevin Wax:
The first objection is that the worldview approach intellectualizes the gospel. While recognizing the dangers of modernism’s overemphasis on reason, Goheen and Bartholomew reaffirm the importance of “thinking Christianly,” and they believe they overcome this objection by showing how the Christian worldview is connected to one’s experience of Jesus Christ. The affective elements of relationship are at the heart of a worldview, and because the starting point is God’s revelation, not human reason, we cannot accept this criticism that a worldview is too dependent on human thought to be valid.

We Will Out-Sing the Enemy

Jared Wilson:
One of my favorite scenes in my all-time favorite movie occurs in the classic Casablanca, when Nazi soldiers mingle uncomfortably with the French occupants in Rick’s Moroccan café. The soldiers begin singing the patriotic German anthem “Die Wacht am Rhein,” which sounds about as terse as the German title implies! The French, however, begin singing “La Marsellaise.” If you haven’t seen the movie, it may be difficult to hear in your mind, so I encourage you to look it up online. The scene is readily available on sites like YouTube.
