The word “faithful” is one we use to describe a person as being reliable; someone who keeps their word to do what they have promised. So how does this idea apply to God? Let’s take a look at what the Bible has to say.

God’s faithfulness means, simply, that He keeps His word and promises. This is a recurring theme in scripture, where God we see God show His faithfulness to His people again and again.

God promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that from their descendents would come a great nation, and that nation was known as Israel. 

When the Israelites were faithless and sent into exile, He promised that they would return to their land after 70 years, and He was faithful to do it. 

And for generations, God promised a rescuer, someone who would come to bear the sins of the world, to bring hope and healing, and set those enslaved by sin free forevermore. And He was faithful, sending His son Jesus to die and rise again. 

The apostles also saw God’s faithfulness as they preached the gospel in the face of criticism, persecution, and even death. It’s no wonder the apostle Paul would write that “He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.” 

God is faithful; He is always faithful, even when we are not. And as His people, we are called to pursue faithfulness, reflecting His faithfulness by keeping the promises we make to Him and to others.
