There are so many things to know when it comes to utilizing SEO principles in order to get your website adequately recognized, can you manage them all? Getting the SEO right for your website is very important, because if you do not get it right it could hurt where your page shows up in the search rankings. Or more like if it shows up at all. Not being ranked properly or highly on a search engine page like Yahoo!, Google or Bing can be disastrous for your company and the products you sell. What do you need to do in order to get all of the SEO tools in place so your webpage has the best results?
- Place Anchor Text in Backlinks Correctly
- Use Appropriate Keywords
- Enter the META Details
- Revise all SEO When Needed
- Use High Quality Backlinks
- Make Your Site Interactive
What is an Anchor Text Anyway?
Anchor text refers to the word that is attached to an embedded link within your article, blog or website. It can be one word or it can even be a phrase, but what you choose to put there is vital to how the spiders and search engines will rank your page. The word or words needs to be related to the content of your site but also to what the link takes you to. Too many words could be confusing to the spider and it won’t know exactly what industry to categorize your business in. Too few or one that is vague would just be out there and not helping your business increase in the rankings. Choose the word you attach to the embedded link carefully and make sure it relates to your business and the link connecting you as well.
Get the Keywords Right
The keywords are what will draw people to your site because it is what they searched for. When a person does a search for roofers in a city, and you are a roofer in a city, then you need to make sure it is repeated in the text somewhere in your site. You can also add other keywords, but make sure your city and what you do is most prominent. People often forget to include their city so that they show up in regional searches, which is where much of their business comes from.
Keywords can be edited and added too as the business grows and changes. By editing or adding keywords, you simply add more text in the form of articles or blogs that contain that keyword. The keywords can also be the anchor text to links you embed within the article or blog to change your keyword focus for the search engines. The more places you have your keywords, the better they will be recognized by the spiders and bots crawling over your page.
Don’t Skip Out on META
META information is all of the other stuff combined. It is entered when setting up your page with the hosting company. It includes what the keywords are, what the description of the business is and any other important data. It might be tedious to enter in all the details, but it is a necessary step in order to be recognized by the search engines in a positive way. Saying you will do it later isn’t a valid excuse because most likely you won’t have time and it ends up never being done. Do it the right way from the beginning so that the spiders can begin ranking your page from the very first day it is published.
Revise, Again
Once you have all of the text set within your site, start going over it again! The spiders need to always have fresh information coming from your page, whether it is new anchor texts in backlinks or if it is a new comment or a reply someone left in the blogs or forum from your site. Don’t stop working on the text of the site because it can get stale and then drop from the rankings in an instant if the spiders recognize it hasn’t updated or been used lately.
Get only Quality Backlinks in Place
Use anchor text in backlinks that are only high in quality. You don’t ever want to link up to a link farm that doesn’t have good text or information on their site. They are basically a dummy page where people can connect to other sites from. You might have landed on one thinking you were getting to a great site with lots of options on the keyword you entered, only to find it a list of websites and ads. Disappointing. The spiders have caught on to them and will penalize sites that do link up to these pages by dropping them down in rank. They only reward sites that link to other valid sites with relevant content and good information that a reader can actually use.
Place keywords that are appropriate for your business as the anchor text to these links. The more places you have your keyword in naturally, they better off it will rank and also sound. You don’t want to force the keyword in just anywhere, but keep it in places where it is recognized by the spiders and makes sense to the person reading the content.
Be Interactive As Much As Possible
Not every company can have a fun site with games that coincide with the product or service they sell. For example, if you were an apple orchard you could have a fun little app designed for your site where a person could play pick the apples and race against the clock to get apples in the basket without dropping them. However, for other businesses such as a funeral home, there isn’t room for fun interaction. It needs to be done in a different and appropriate level. The interaction can happen in a Q & A section between people who are pre-planning a funeral or ones that know a loved one will be passing away soon. It could also be done through comments to a blog that is contained on the site.
The more interactive your site is and the more ways that you reach out to people, the better chances that the SEO you do use will be successful. Even if you don’t have your keywords in exactly the spot you should or use the correct anchor text backlinks each and every time, you will have luck because you have employed so many variations across your site. SEO is a difficult thing to master, but with a little work and some effort on your part or that of an IT department, it can be done well. Send out a lot of email campaigns targeted to who your customer base is supposed to be. Use the correct anchors to the links with your site. Update and revise keywords as soon as your business focus changes. And the bottom line is if you don’t know how to do it yourself, hire a business or an expert who does so your business doesn’t suffer while you learn the process yourself.
